APEX Athletics is a competitive athletic testing platform built around one idea: reduce performance to a single, undeniable number. Seven events (40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, medicine ball toss, pull-ups, push-ups, and a one-mile run) combine into one APEX Score that stacks every athlete against every other athlete who's ever competed.
No teams, no luck, no excuses. Just you versus the field. The organization hosts live competitions and continuously updates the leaderboard as new results come in, making the site a living record of athletic performance rather than a static showcase.
The platform needed to reflect that intensity: a digital home that felt as competitive and data-driven as the events themselves, while remaining easy to navigate for athletes, coaches, and fans checking in on results.
Direction
The brief was built around data. APEX isn't a traditional sports site. It's closer to a live leaderboard with an event platform attached. Athletes come back repeatedly to check updated scores, track their ranking, and see how new competition results shift the field. The site had to make that data feel alive and meaningful, not buried in a table.
The design direction leaned into the platform's core proposition: clarity and competition. Clean layouts, strong hierarchy, and a visual language that put the numbers front and center. Every section was built to surface information fast, because the people using this site know what they're looking for and don't want friction between them and their score.
At the same time, the site needed to communicate the full weight of what APEX is building: a universal standard for measuring human athletic performance. Bold type, high contrast, and an unapologetic confidence in the product.
iOS Integration
Alongside the web platform, our development team built a native iOS app that gave athletes a dedicated space to track their APEX Score between events. The app pulled live data from competition results, meaning scores updated in real time as events concluded. No manual entry, no delay.
The design system was built to carry cleanly across both surfaces. Typography, color, and data hierarchy were established on the web and carried directly into the app, creating a cohesive experience whether an athlete was checking results on their phone courtside or drilling into their full event breakdown on desktop.
The integration made APEX more than a competition. It made it a platform athletes stayed connected to year-round.
